Day 1: From Edinburgh to Glencoe

We picked up our rental car at the Edinburgh Airport around 8:30 AM and hit the road. Our first scenic stop was at Midhope Castle, followed by a delicious breakfast/lunch in Linlithgow. Continuing north, we stopped at Fort William for gas and supplies before heading to the breathtaking Glencoe area. We paused at the Glencoe Mountain, the famous Three Sisters Viewpoint, and the iconic Wee White House. Before reaching our accommodation, we snapped photos at the Lochan an h-Achalaise South Viewpoint and the "Welcome to the Highlands" sign. We stayed the night at Woodlands in Glencoe, a cozy B&B nestled in the mountains.

Day 2: Glencoe to Portree (Isle of Skye)

After breakfast at Birch Cafe in Portree, we drove toward the Isle of Skye. On the way, we stopped at Glenfinnan Viaduct (yes, the Harry Potter bridge!) and continued to Eilean Donan Castle for stunning views and a quick food break in Dornie. Once on Skye, we had tea and pastries at Flodigarry before heading up to the Fairy Pools. After a full day of scenic detours, we checked in at The Old Electric Store in Portree and enjoyed a peaceful walk and dinner in town.

Day 3: Exploring the Isle of Skye

Our full day on Skye began with a breakfast at Birch Cafe, then we hit the road for a series of iconic stops. We drove by the northen side of the island (saw amazing views and sheep everywhere), stopped for pastries & tea at some random hotel on the middle of nowehere, then went to see the Quiraing, and later made it to the Old Man of Storr for an unforgettable view and windy hike. The highlight was the winding drive through the Quiraing, one of Skye's most dramatic landscapes. We returned to Portree for another lovely evening of walking and dinner.

Day 4: Portree to Inverness via Loch Ness

We kicked off the day with a hearty breakfast at Quila Cridhe Tearoom at Drumbuie Farm in Drumnadrochit. Our journey continued with a visit to the Loch Ness Center, a scenic stop at the Abriachan Forest Trust, and a photo-op along the Great Glen Way. In Inverness, we explored the charming Victorian Market, Leakey's Bookshop, and strolled along the River Ness. We stayed the night at 42 Island Bank Road, a welcoming B&B.

Day 5: Inverness to Edinburgh (via Scone Palace)

Before heading south, we made a quick morning visit to the Inverness Botanic Garden. On our drive back to Edinburgh, we made one final historical stop at Scone Palace. We returned the car around 4:00 PM and wrapped up our unforgettable road trip.

This map traces the full route of our Scotland road trip, with each blue dot marking a stop we made along the way. From the Highlands to the Isle of Skye and back to Edinburgh, the red line shows the scenic path we followed through some of the most beautiful parts of the country:
