Sardinia Do’s & Don’ts

On our trip to Sardinia, we learned a lot. Here are a few of the do’s and don’ts we wish we’d known before going — especially since we went in completely blind (no tips from friends or family, just a mix of TikToks, Google searches, and a bit of last-minute booking energy).

DO's

Take a day trip to the Maddalena Archipelago

You can easily book a boat tour departing from Palau. The islands are stunning — turquoise water, hidden coves, and beaches that look straight out of a postcard.

🚤 Go on a boat trip to the Golfo di Orosei

This coast is full of cliffs, caves, and secret beaches. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

🌦️ Check the weather before booking your boat or Cala tours

Even in September (supposedly the “perfect” month with good weather and fewer crowds), we got hit with unexpected rain and some canceled plans. Sardinia’s weather can be unpredictable, so plan accordingly.

📍 Choose your accommodation carefully

Don’t rely just on pretty Airbnb photos. Some neighborhoods can look great online but feel isolated or sketchy in person. Research the area before booking — distances in Sardinia are no joke.

DON'Ts

🚗 Underestimate distances

Sardinia is huge — driving from north to south takes almost four hours. You don’t want to end up stuck in the middle of nowhere without restaurants or gas stations nearby.

🏙️ Expect big city vibes

Even the main towns are pretty small and quiet. That’s part of Sardinia’s charm, but if you’re looking for nightlife or shopping, you might be disappointed.

Here are a few photos to get you excited for your trip to Sardinia! It’s an incredible destination — totally worth it, even if you run into a few hiccups along the way.
