Why the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is worth the 1-hour train from Copenhagen, you may ask? Well, let me tell you… This isn’t your typical museum visit. Imagine stepping off the train, walking through a quiet little town, and suddenly finding yourself in a place where art, nature, and architecture blend seamlessly. The Louisiana isn’t just about paintings on walls—it’s about wandering through sculpture gardens with sweeping sea views, discovering thought-provoking exhibitions, and even enjoying a glass of wine on a terrace overlooking the water. It feels more like a retreat than a museum, which is exactly why the trip is worth every minute.”

And the museum cafeteria does not disappoint. In fact, calling it a cafeteria hardly does it justice—it feels more like a restaurant with its glass walls overlooking the sea. The food exceeded my expectations of typical museum café fare: fresh, seasonal dishes that felt carefully prepared rather than just convenient. Whether it’s a hearty plate of Nordic-inspired food, a simple coffee and pastry, or a glass of wine enjoyed on the terrace, eating here becomes part of the whole Louisiana experience. It’s the kind of spot where you’ll want to linger, not rush.

And honestly—even the toilets are an architectural experience. Sleek, minimal, and perfectly designed, they’re a reminder that at Louisiana, no detail is too small to escape thoughtful design. The use of warm wood finishes softens the space, making even a quick bathroom break feel like part of the museum’s aesthetic journey.

and now...

How to Get to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art from Copenhagen

Getting to the Louisiana Museum is surprisingly easy and makes for a smooth day trip. From Copenhagen Central Station (København H), take a regional train heading north toward Helsingør. The ride takes about 35–40 minutes. You’ll want to get off at Humlebæk Station, which is the stop closest to the museum.

From Humlebæk Station, it’s about a 10-minute walk through a quiet residential neighborhood to reach the entrance of the museum. Signs point the way, and the stroll itself is charming—you’ll pass leafy streets that feel a world away from the city.

💡 Tip: Trains run frequently (every 15–20 minutes during the day), and you can use a regular Copenhagen public transport ticket or Rejsekort. If you’re planning to explore beyond Copenhagen, consider getting a day pass that covers the regional zones—it makes the trip even easier

Hopefully you’ll enjoy Louisiana as much as I did—it’s a day trip from Copenhagen that’s truly worth it.
